Get close to nature and embrace the beauty of the ocean.
GreenValue recently led our teammates on a visit to Keelung’s National Museum of Marine Science & Technology and the Chaojing Coral Conservation Center. Captivated by the wonders of the ocean and eager to give back, we rallied colleagues and friends to sign up for scuba-diving lessons—laying the groundwork for the day we can help transplant algal reefs ourselves and do our part to protect marine biodiversity.
We chose the entry-level Open Water Diver (OW) certification, the first milestone for anyone embarking on a diving journey. Once we earn our OW licenses, we’ll set our sights on the Advanced Open Water (AOW) course for an even deeper challenge.
The three-day program combines classroom sessions, pool drills, and shore dives. After the first day’s theory and confined-water practice, everyone could hardly wait for the open-water portion along the coast.
The initial mix of excitement and nerves melted away with each descent and careful breath. Immersed in the vast, embracing sea—watching a parade of marine life up close while savoring the hush and serenity below—we realized that even lugging 20-plus kilograms of gear across the shoreline is a small price to pay for witnessing such splendor firsthand.
As citizens of an island nation, a love for the ocean is etched into our DNA. This experience not only nudged us out of our comfort zones and into a world of awe-inspiring beauty; it also strengthened our resolve to contribute more tangibly to marine conservation in the near future. Together, we aim to safeguard the rich diversity of our seas.
